Week 9 - Thing #17

Wikis
In moments of sheer boredom and needing entertainment, I have pursued and enjoyed the "Random Article" component on Wikipedia.I have often found myself going off in search of information listed in the random article. I learned a lot of interesting things this way. Other than that I have not have much exposure to wikis.
The collaboration inherent in a wiki is interesting to me. It opens lots of possibilities for group projects allowing and encouraging many perspectives and accumulation of knowledge. I think it might be interesting to do book group wikis like Nancy Pearl's Book Lust group. It allows people at long distances to discuss books, rather than in a small community or one area of a community, as it is in my library.
I did sneak a peek the Simpson's wiki - fun! Colbert's "wikiality" maybe become my new word. and I also loved piece on book clubs.

Week 8 - Thing 16 - Web 2.0

Thinking about library Web2.0 and its implications is on one hand exhilirating, and on the other hand is overwhelming. It opens many new avenues and goes beyond the concept of libraries as collections and librarians as caretakers of those collections.
Our small rural library has been a place for community members to come in and chat, find a new book and talk a little town politics. Few of our patrons are asking for or expecting the kinds of web connections that are discussed in these articles. For me that means I need to take on the role of introducing and promoting other possibilities.

Week 8 - Thing 15 Technorati

…”there are over 175,000 new blogs (that’s just blogs) every day.
This quote really says it all for me. I don't have time or the interest to pursue these possibilities. This much news and information scares and overwhelms me.
I feel impowered to know that this exists and that I can help my patrons use this, but on a personal level I may not get to this for a long while.

Week 8 - Thing 14 Delicious

I like using delicious. I allows me to access many more bookmarked sites. I like the format and can imagine using this on my library page for those frequently used sites. I want to think more about how this might work for librayr patrons.

Week 7 - Thing #13

I have always kept a journal of books I read. I don't know whether an online version will work for me or not. I'm not sure how this might work for my patrons.

Week 7 - thing #12

I like this generator. It was easy to use.

Week 6

Thank you.

Week Five

Social networking
M y daughters set me up with a MySpace account several years ago. They helped me to do this because I had a friend who had an account and they felt it was a good way for me to keep in touch. As my youngest daughter went away to college, it allowed me to keep in touch with her and her friends.
Now I have a Facebook account because it's the new way to keep in touch. My oldest daughter posts pictures of my grandsons and I can still keep in touch with friends and my daughters' friends.
Sometimes I find it a little trivial but I have been known to do the quizzes and actually my crayon color is cornflower.

23 things - week four

I have already bookmarked my daughters' and my husband's blog and websites and so having a feed reader simply makes it a little easier. I chose to add the site "Unshelved" as I like to add a little humor to my life as often as possible. I also switched my bookmark to "For Better or For Worse" comic strip to my feeder as well.

23 things - week three

As a teacher, in my other part time job, I use technology all the time. I have worked with my students to do research on line and use power Point presentations to share their learning. The best part of 23 things is that I am learning about new ways to use technology and I know that I will be sharing all of this with my students and with the patrons in my library.
